The core of Mail*Hub is a robust, UNIX-based "backbone" or messaging infrastructure designed to integrate an organization's existing E-mail systems and directories. Mail*Hub incorporates all of the current standards in electronic mail and directory services, including X.400, SMTP, MIME, and X.500. Added to the E-mail backbone is a set of gateways that allow for information exchange among IBM and DEC legacy systems, UNIX mailers, PC mailers (cc:Mail, MS Mail, Novell MHS and NetWare Global MHS, WordPerfect Office, Lotus Notes), and Macintosh mailers (MS Mail, QuickMail).

The X.400 MTA included with Mail*Hub is a GOSIP certified, complete 1988 X.400 implementation. It supports all mandatory and most of the optional features of X.400. X.400 components of Mail*Hub have also been built atop a very full implementation of the industry standard X/Open X.400 API.

Additional Mail*Hub features:

- Integrated fax and document conversion services

- Directory synchronization among all interconnected systems

- An X.500 directory client, called aXess500, for users and administrators on UNIX, PC Windows, or Macintosh systems

- A UNIX-based utility, called Advanced Operations Manager, for managing the Mail*Hub messaging and directory infrastructure

- A Message Store that creates a client/server messaging environment for use with X.400 user agents

- Interoperability with HP OpenMail

- Support for messaging based integration of applications such as EDI, workflow, and group calendar and scheduling packages

Mail*Hub is a commercial product set available from Control Data Systems on Sun SPARC, HP 9000, and IBM RS/6000 platforms. Design, implementation, and support services are also provided, including outsourcing services.
